RIP King Vulture

We regret to inform you that King Vulture's head has exploded after hearing the news the writers of Transformers will be working on a remake of David Cronenberg's Videodrome, turning the 80's masterpiece into an action film.
We will be bringing his remains down to the lab and with any luck we'll be able to get him functioning again sometime this week. In the meantime be prepared to scrape the brain matter of loved ones' off your own ceilings when they hear this news.

More Good News From Marvel Comics

New Morbius series coming from Marvel Now?
Bring it!

Thanks to Lon Monster at Bloody Disgusting for the heads up!

Without a new Blade film in the works, Morbius would fill that void nicely or would at least be a damn good villain for another Spiderman film! At any rate, The Living Vampire has earned his day in the sun...or moon. Whatever.

King Vulture's Sound Attack

Raven was from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and thrash metal pioneers (influence on Metallica), but I didn't know anything about them aside from the fact that I knew there was a band called Raven from the late 70's/early 80's. But now I've added them to my Spotify playlist and I'll be purchasing whatever physical albums I can find!
Here's Faster Than The Speed of Light
And Seek And Destroy

And Power and the Glory

I love how while being a metal band, they have a raw punk sound as well. I can't believe after twenty five years of listening to metal and punk I never came across these guys before!

Is Someone Having a Birthday..?

Heaven knows where I'll end up - but it's a safe bet that I'll never be at the top of anything! Nor do I particularly care to be.
-HP Lovecraft
Happy 122nd Cake Day! That quote sums up so many personal feelings and his body of work is sure to reach on beyond the next 122 years.

My Heroes Have Always Been Monsters Part 21

A precursor to Batman, The Shadow  was a dark and mysterious crime fighter who used several disguises and a network of agents to wage war on the underworld. With a look that just flat out defined cool, The Shadow was one of the most influential and popular of all the pulp heroes. The Shadow has been featured in every medium except animation (as far as I know.
I was first exposed to The Shadow one Christmas when my Aunt Brenda got me the Denny O'Neil/Michael Kaluta graphic novel that had The Shadow fighting Nazis.
The Shadow captured my imagination in a way that only Batman, Treasure Island, and Frankenstein had before.
Dynamite Entertainment's new reboot of the character is set back in the pre-World War II world where he belongs and is as violent and action packed as any fan would want.
The new series holds up well against the old DC Comics series.
There's been rumors of a new movie for a few years, but I'm not holding my breath. I was certainly not knocked out by the Alec Baldwin version from '94, not that it was totally awful, just a bit too tongue in cheek and goofy in parts. Baldwin could've made a terrific Shadow had there been a better script.
When I was drawing my earliest comics as a kid, I ripped off the Shadow more times than I can remember.

Released this year was the sick 12" Sideshow Collectible action figure.
Keep watching the sky, nerds!

Joe Kubert Gone At 85

His work speaks for itself...

King Vulture's Sound Attack

My absolute, #1 favorite band. Hugely inspirational. I can put on their music anytime, regardless of my mood...
This is a very cool song from their last album, which also happens to be my favorite, In My Head. The song is called Drinking and Driving...let's all revel in it!

Just Take My Money, You A-Holes

Son of a bitch! Marvel has found a way to make me buy (at least one of) their comics again.

Brian Posehn. Deadpool. Geoff Darrow doing the cover. Screw you guys. You win. I'm buying it.
That's pretty.

Oh, why haven't I been buying Marvel lately? $3.99 an issue and low page count. I'm on a budget! When I can only afford one comic and I have to choose between Animal Man for $2.99 and Daredevil for $3.99, both are great books, but Animal Man wins out. And I miss Daredevil.  Now I have to decide what I'm going to drop to add Deadpool.

Bastards.

Fright Fest E-Magazine For Free!

If you can't make it to this year's Fright Fest, you can at least read the E-Mag for free. Sooooo many movies I can not wait to see and a tribute to my hero, Dario Argento. Several pages have interactive buttons or trailers. I don't read many magazines online so I don't know if this is standard, or if this is something special. I won't moan over the death of print mags if online mags actually take advantage of the capabilities of the net. Click on the archive button for previous issues. I've 'flipped' through a few of them and I can't wait to dig into every issue! Thanks to Bleeding Cool for hipping me.

And just because it's playing at this year's fest and I'm actually excited to see it, here's the red band trailer for V/H/S...
NSFW. Enjoy.

King Vulture's Sound Attack

Sometimes you just get in a mood. Great track from the Strangler's 2nd album, the title track to No More Heroes.
Smash It Up by the Damned. I don't think the Damned get the proper amount of attention, after all they right there at the beginning with The Clash and Sex Pistols.
How about some X Ray Spex...Oh Bondage. Up Yours!

Social Media Massacre

King Vulture wants YOU to join the Vulture Henchman Squad on Facebook!
We're all waiting for you!

A new album and video from Testament?!? They sound great. I just finished previewing the new album, Dark Roots of Earth, on iTunes and I'm very excited to spend some time with this one. I think old school thrash fans are going to be pretty happy.

New Flick Time

Monster Pants has announced that pre-orders are go on Amazon.com for the new Dark Sky Films/ Glass Eye Pix HYPOTHERMIA!
Starring Michael Rooker (Walking Dead), Greg Finley and Blanche Baker and written and directed by James Felix McKenney (Satan Hates You). I first heard about this project in the 1st and only issue of Famous Monsters Underground. McKenney talked about his love for the Creature From The Black Lagoon and that being one of the inspirations for Hypothermia. Being a huge fan of the Creature, it got me very excited for this film. The trailer looks great and it stars Michael Rooker, October 2nd get here fast enough!
