My Heroes Have Always Been Monsters Part 29

I think back to those long weekends and hot summer nights, running out to one of the local video stores. We'd usually get something for the family and maybe rent a Nintendo game for my brothers, and sometimes I'd get lucky and get to pick one for myself. I used to linger in the horror section long before I had any desire to sit through one of those bloody slabs of plastic. I was drawn to and fascinated by the lurid artwork. My imagination would run wild trying to guess what happened in those films, then would recoil in horror at the bloody and freakish pics on the back.

I hate to be the old man that misses the good old days, but there was something about growing up during the VHS boom with mom and pop video stores that was really special, particularly if you were into horror and exploitation. Oh, the sleaze...oh, the blood...Those boxes promised so much and there was the anxiety, because you had to get it past mom (of course the trick was to stop asking her and go straight to step dad). Here's a few box covers that still really stand out in my mind. I won't attest to the quality of all of these films, but they went for it, so you've got to give them that ! This only scratches the surface of my rental history, if anyone has anything special or a kick ass box art to show off, message me, I'll put it up!

Here's a trailer for a film I always wanted to see, but the one store in town that had a copy never got it returned or replaced; Razorback...
Keep watching the sky, nerds!

King Vulture's Sound Attack

Not much of a theme tonight, just a bunch of older punk (and one doom metal) songs that I love. Hope there's something here you haven't heard but fall in love with too!

TSOL...Code Blue
The Exploited...Race Against Time
Gun Club...Ghost On The Highway
Saint Vitus...Saint Vitus
The Dicks...I Hope You Get Drafted
Bad Brains...Fearless Vampire Killers
DOA...Woke Up Screaming
Agent Orange...Cry For Help In A World Gone Mad
Subhumans...All Gone Dead
The Crime...Hot Wire My Heart

Oh, Really?

It better be, baby!
Just in case you haven't seen it, here's the amazing Red Band Trailer...

Personally, as sick as I am with remakes/reboots, I'm pretty damned excited about this.

Orders From The League; What If...

Every week The League of Extraordinary Bloggers is given an assignment. This week it's...
"One of my favorite comic book series as a kid was “What if…?” where Marvel writers pondered what might have been, had a certain event never happened, or happened differently. So, this week’s challenge for the League of Extraordinary Bloggers is…
“What if…? — Write an alternate turn of events for a pop culture storyline.”
What If...Professor X Got All Scanners On The World?!?

There are some characters that have been able to stand on their moral principles no matter how far the world has pushed them, but what if one of those characters was just a little more human, a little more weak, a little more tired of being pushed around, living in fear, seeing loved ones persecuted and executed. What if Professor Charles Xavier sat in his study one day watching the president calling for tougher sanctions against mutant kind, calling them the greatest threat to mankind. Chuck could reach out and telepathically feel the fear and hatred boiling in the minds of the normals. The words of his old comrade, Magneto, echoing in the back of his mind, "they'll always fear us...they'll always hate us..." Scientists working on a cure for people who aren't sick, engineers building machines to eradicate those that can't be controlled. It will never end. Xavier leans toward the tv and flexes his mind just a bit and BOOM! Exploding head all over every major news outlet and a STRONG voice inside of every viewers head; "LEAVE US ALONE OR WE WILL WIPE YOU OFF THE FACE OF THE PLANET!"
No one is more shocked than Xavier himself...How could he have done such a thing? What now? The answer comes from the voice of a man desperately trying to get drunk but never quite getting there, "Well, bub. Now we're at war."

Hellraiser: The Dark Watch

Bloody Disgusting has this beauty; the new ongoing Hellraiser series "The Dark Watch" from creator Clive Barker, Witchdoctor writer Brandon Seifert, and artist Tom Garcia. Click the link for the details.
I've been an avid fan of the original book (Hellbound Heart) and the first two films since high school. I collected the old comics series (along with the Nightbreed comics, which crossed over). The film series lost it's way with part 3, though part 4 Bloodlines wasn't bad. Barker returning with Boom's new series has been a blast and it's a great relief that he'll be sticking with the new series.

Meet The Hostiles...Work In Progress

Still very much a work in progress; These are the first of my Hostiles custom-ized Luchadors.

1st up is         Crimson Black

next,
Spectre Oscuro

this guy to the right is The
Death Valley
Devil

and now meet,
High Roller

These guys all need a little more touching up and they have some friends coming. I'm planning to make custom packaging and sell them individually with mini comics focusing on each character. Each figure is one of a kind/hand painted, from the awesome Mexican bagged luchas.
I can't wait to have the first batch completed. King Vulture will have special Hostiles comics coming to Stranger very soon. Hope you like them!
